Deaf Awareness Training
Bespoke training for groups and individuals
DEN provides bespoke Deaf Awareness Training for businesses and organisations, delivering training at your premises to groups of 10 people or more.
Deaf Awareness Training can also be delivered remotely via Teams or Zoom.
We will create a session with terminology relevant to your industry sector i.e.
- Medical
- Optical
- Dental
- Hospitality
- Education / Schools / Colleges
- Visitors / Tourist Industry
- Retail
- Veterinary
Your training session will include a PowerPoint presentation by our lead trainer (who is accompanied by an interpreter), a question-and-answer session and also a practical element where there is the opportunity to learn some basic sign language. In the session you will gain an understanding of the following:
- Know what services are provided by DEN
- Understand the barriers faced by the Deaf community
- Learn how to overcome these barriers
- Be aware of how to communicate effectively and courteously with Deaf and hard of hearing people
- Learn about BSL interpreting standards and how to work with them correctly
- Learn the fundamentals of the British Sign Language (BSL) Act 2022
We cover topics such as communication barriers, and give strategies that will enable staff and colleagues to communicate more effectively with deaf people, as well as giving a good overview of deaf issues.
All our training is delivered to a standard of excellence and both our 2 and 3 hour Deaf Awareness Training Sessions have CPD accreditation. All attendees will receive CPD points and a certificate of completion.
